About Twin Cities RISE!
As an Executive Vice President at General Mills and a board member of its charitable foundation,
Steve Rothschild got an in-depth look at pressing social issues in the Twin Cities. He became particularly interested
in job-training programs for the poor, noting that few (if any) produced graduates with the skill level necessary to
work and succeed in companies such as General Mills.
As he learned more about the barriers to success faced by many
individuals living in poverty, he decided to take action. He left General Mills and started Twin Cities RISE! in 1994,
putting up his own money and volunteering full-time as its president and CEO. Now TCR! operates in two Twin Cities
locations, serving more than 2,000 people each year in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
