Who is Twin Cities RISE! (TCR!) and what do we do?
Twin Cities RISE! is a professional development training program. We provide workskills training and personal development to prepare our participants for entry level skilled positions in Administrative Office Support, Clerical, Customer Service, Data Entry, Retail Banking, Operations, and Warehouse paying at least $20,000 per year with benefits.

What is the mission of Twin Cities RISE!?
The mission of Twin Cities RISE! is to provide employers with skilled workers - primarily men from communities of color in the Twin Cities area - by training under- and unemployed adults for skilled jobs that pay a living wage of at least $20,000 annually.

What is the Empowerment Institute?
The Empowerment Institute (EI) is an external training arm of TCR!, formed with the express purpose of extending our unique Personal Empowerment program to other organizations, businesses, local schools and colleges. Personal Empowerment training is the backbone of the TCR! program. The Institute provides several types of training including:

  • Personal Empowerment classes for your staff or clients
  • Train-The-Trainer programs for those who are interested in becoming certified Personal Empowerment trainers
  • Empowered Supervision training for managers and supervisors who want to be more successful and achieve higher levels of output for their division.

All training programs can be customized to fit the specific needs of the individuals and/or organization.

Program

Are there any criteria in order to be eligible for the program?
We are an anti-poverty program so we do have some eligibility requirements. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • At least 18 years old and live in Minnesota
  • Have earned no more than $20,000 last year
  • Own less than $7,000 in assets, not including a home.
  • Assets may include:
    • Car
    • Savings
    • Stock
    • Mutual funds
    • Retirement pension plan
    • Trust fund
  • Willing and able to work full time
  • Eligible to be legally employed in the United States now and for the next 2 years
  • Have a high school diploma or GED. If no GED, must be willing to obtain GED within 10 to 20 weeks
  • Not currently a college student, attending another training program, or a 4 year degree holder from a US institution
  • No Criminal Sexual Conduct convictions (CSC) or Arson convictions
  • Individual has been out of jail for at least 90 days
  • Individual has not used drugs in the last 42 days
  • Applicant must demonstrate English fluency and basic literacy

What if I do not have a GED?
Twin Cities RISE! provides the opportunity for individuals to obtain a GED through the TCR! Core Program. A GED must be obtained within 10 to 20 weeks of admission to the program.

Do I get paid to be in the program?
We do not pay participants while in the program. We do however, expect that our participants work at least part time while attending classes and we will assist you in your job search if you are not employed when you start.

How much does the program cost?
There is no cost to you as the participant for the first 10 weeks of training at TCR!. After the first session, we ask that you sign a Partnership Agreement that outlines your responsibilities to continue on in the program. For further information or to attend an information session, please call our Minneapolis Office at (612) 338 - 0295 or our St. Paul office at 651-603-8520.

Does TCR! guarantee me a job?
We do not guarantee jobs. We offer courses that provide you with the necessary hard skills and soft skills to prepare you for interviews with some of the companies we work with.

How long does the program take to complete?
The amount of time you will study at TCR! depends on the skills you have when you enter the program. The average time participants spend at TCR! is a year.

Does TCR! help with transportation/day care?
You may be eligible for assistance with transportation (bus cards) and/or day care. If you have questions about this and your eligibility, please ask about it during your interview.

Can I test out of any classes?
We allow participants the option to "test-out" of some classes.

How can I become a hiring partner?
