When David Green came to TCR!, he had work experience in banking and carpentry, and an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Construction. But he was unemployed and dealing with a history of alcoholism, drug addiction, unstable housing, and separation from his wife. With a felony in his background, finding a job that would accept his history was a challenge.
At TCR!, David worked on his confidence and self-esteem through Personal Empowerment, and gained on-the-job experience interning at the front desk at TCR!. He earned a promising part time job in energy auditing, but a cut in funding meant the end of the position and a feeling of defeat.
“When I was going through all that stuff, I wasn’t a happy person. I wasn’t David,” he says. “All the people at Twin Cities RISE! really helped me become me again.”
After another internship, coaching, and lessons on how to discuss his felony in interviews, David received a full time job at a local nonprofit. He's now using his educational background working as an electrician and fulfilling his career goals. He's in his own apartment, and able to spend more quality time with his children.
“I generally try and be happy person, look at the bright side and help people smile,” David says. “I never knew my dad, so I really want [my kids] to know me, and I want to be active in their lives.”
